Ainscow in talks to buy Barratt out of BASE

Carol Ainscow’s development company Artisan is in talks to buy out Barratt’s stake in the £200m BASE joint venture.

BASE is a consortium between Barratt and Artisan working on affordable housing projects in Manchester.

In March, the joint venture got the go-ahead to masterplan a 128-acre site in West Gorton.

A planning application for 1,200 new homes is due to be submitted this summer.

Last week, Barratt sought to reassure shareholders by issuing a late announcement to the stock exchange that it was in control of its debt and loan covenants.

Shares in the housebuilder have fallen by as much as 90% from their peak.
