Living the dream: From converted silk mills to transformed marshlands, groundbreaking schemes are taking residential to a new level


 


 


What: Meier on Rothschild


 


Where: Rothschild Boulevard, Tel Aviv

Why: This tower will be 27 storeys high, with each 735 sq m floor comprising a single living space or being divided into two or four apartments. Designed to a seven-star standard, the building will include a luxury spa, swimming pool complex and fitness centre, and will have a concierge.


 


 


What: Beehive Mills


 


Where: Bradford


 


Who: Developer: McGinnis Urban


 


Why: Beehive Mills will be one of the biggest developments of its kind in the region, situated in the city’s Learning Quarter. It will include 517 apartments, comprising studios, one-bed and two-bed flats. The first completions are expected late next summer.


 


 


What: Amara Golf Village


 


Where: Maenam, Koh Samui, Thailand


 


Who: Developer: Lynx Developments; Architect: Rarin Design


 


Why: This scheme will consist of 19 luxury private villas, each with three en-suite bedrooms, which open onto an expansive outdoor living area and a private pool. Expected completion date is September 2009.


 


 


 


What: Silkworks


 


Where: Lewisham, London SE13


 


Who: Developer and architect: St James Urban Living


 


Why: The redevelopment of a former silk mill, this scheme consists of 330 units – city suites and one- and two-bedroom apartments. Expected completion date is 2009.


 


 


What: Pegasus Town


 


Where: Pegasus Bay, near Christchurch, New Zealand


 


Who: Developer: Pegasus Town; Architects: Boffa Miskell (overall), Mason & Wales (town centre)


 


Why: The town will be home to 5,000 new residents on a site that, a few years ago, was a marshland. The town will feature a 300-acre wetland park, golf course, family and retirement homes, retail and leisure facilities and schools. The first phase is expected to be completed within the next few months.


 


 


What: Anfield


 


Where: Liverpool


 


Who: Developer: Affordable Housing Development Co; Architect: Chris Davies Developments; Project manager: Arcadis AYH


 


Why: The scheme is part of the Breckfield regeneration area, in one of the government’s Pathfinder areas. Arena Housing and Liverpool city council are transferring the ownership of 150 properties, which are sold to owner-occupiers on completion, at no cost on the basis of a profit share on completion. The overall scheme is expected to be completed by 2011.


 


 


What: Island Harbour


 


Where: Cowes, Isle of Wight


 


Who: Architect: SMC Charter Architects; Developer: Island Harbour Holdings


 


Why: This scheme consists of 48 three- and four-bedroom marina properties with moorings close by, in a river valley outside Cowes. Each property has a balcony with countryside and water views, and an allocated parking space. Completion is expected by January 2009.


 


 


What: Les Terrasses d’Agadir


 


Where: Atlantic coast at Agadir, Morocco


 


Who: Developer: Bridgehouse International


 


Why: Les Terrasses d’Agadir is a 147-room apart-hotel, offering investors the opportunity to buy a fully managed and furnished four-star serviced apartment – the first of its kind in Morocco. Completion is expected in December 2009.


 


 


What: Broomfield Estate


 


Where: Perthshire


 


Who: Architect and developer: Zebrano


 


Why: The Perthshire estate is set to be transformed into a development that will involve the conversion of the original 1910 Edwardian mansion into four contemporary apartments and remodelling of the coach house into a four-bedroom home, alongside three contemporary villas set within their own private gardens. Completion is expected by the end of this year.


 


 


What: Creola Sands Resort


 


Where: Boavista Island, Cape Verde


 


Who: Developer: Sands Developments Cape Verde; Architect: Broadway Malyan


 


Why: This resort includes outdoor swimming pools, restaurant, bar and entertainment areas, and a gymnasium, and will include 286 luxury duplexes plus studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
