The law firm that acted for jailed former Orb Estates director Dr Gerald Smith is facing a substantial legal claim brought by former dotcom company Izodia from which Smith stole more than £30m.
Last week, a claim was filed at the High Court by Izodia against top
In 2006, Smith was given an eight-year prison sentence for theft and false accounting arising from his activities at Izodia.
The claim reportedly alleges that Fladgate, which was Izodia’s solicitor at the time of the theft, failed to look after Izodia’s interests and also represented Smith and his Orb Group once the Serious Fraud Office launched an investigation into the missing millions.
The lawsuit has been brought by Izodia’s directors, City banker Rory Macnamara and fund manager Christopher Mills of JO Hambro Capital Management, who were brought into Izodia after the fraud was discovered.
Fladgate declined to comment.
