RBS denies rumours of Hester appointment
Royal Bank of Scotland this morning denied reports linking British Land’s Stephen Hester to the role of chairman or chief executive.
RBS said it had not discussed replacing RBS chief executive Fred Goodwin and chairman Tom McKillop, adding that it had been “completely focused” on fixing problems at the bank.
RBS said in a statement: “We have been completely focused on fixing things, these issues have not even been discussed.”
The statement followed a Daily Telegraph report that RBS was to replace Goodwin and McKillop at the helm with British Land’s Stephen Hester, formerly of the Abbey, and Sir Philip Hampton, currently chairman of Sainsbury’s.
