Steven McLeod’s Aurora Hotels has submitted a planning application for a £75m hotel and spa complex in Larbert, Falkirk.
The Scottish entrepreneur plans to build a 220-bedroom five-star hotel, a grand ballroom, an auditorium with a capacity for 600 people and 85 houses.
F;alkirk council will be considering the application for the scheme, which is located in the grounds of the five-star Glenbervie House Hotel, Larbert, close to the M876 motorway, early this year.
If approved, the development would create around 400 full-time equivalent jobs for the local area and generate £15m for the economy.
David Bell, director at Jones Lang LaSalle which is planning consultant for Aurora Hotels, said: “These are impressive plans for a significant development which will create a number of new jobs and help to boost the tourism, business and conference markets for the local and wider area.
“The site commands an excellent strategic location, being equidistant between Glasgow and Edinburgh, with over 1m people well within a 1-hour drive time.
“While there are short- to medium-term issues with the wider economy which may put downward pressure on demand, by the time the project is built, the expectations are that the national economy will once again be in a period of growth.”
