Prince of Wales trust lodges Bass brewery plans

The Prince’s Regeneration Trust, the charity of the Prince of Wales, and Gladedale Special Projects have lodged plans for a mixed-use redevelopment of the Grade II- listed former Bass Maltings brewery in Sleaford, Lincolnshire.

The plans comprise 220 apartments in the existing buildings and 26 new-build homes adjacent to the listed structures, alongside 40,000 sq ft of offices and 30,000 sq ft of medical facilities.

Bass built the Maltings complex between 1901 and 1907. They were in production until 1958.

The Trust said the plans had followed many years’ work by the Trust and Gladedale to bring back into use one of Lincolnshire’s “largest and most historically important buildings”.

The future of the buildings was uncertain for many years and was brought to the attention of the Trust in 2003, when a feasibility study identified the area as having the potential for a combination of residential, office and community ties.

HRH The Prince of Wales visited the site to help promote the case for its conservation and regeneration.

Gladedale bought the site in 2006.

Ros Kerslake, chief executive of The Prince’s Regeneration Trust, said: “This has been one of the most complex and challenging heritage regeneration projects in the country and it is a huge tribute to the dedication of the developer and other local  stakeholders that we have reached this remarkable point.”
