Leicester Tigers win consent for £100m site regeneration

Rugby Club Leicester Tigers has won consent for the £100m regeneration of land around its stadium.

Plans for the mixed-use scheme which will sit next to the Tigers’ £30m redevelopment of its north stand at the Welford Road ground, include: a 141-bedroom four star hotel, 27,700 sq ft of offices, 150 student flats and a multi-storey car park.

David Clayton, managing director of Leicester Tigers, said: “The scheme we’ve put forward with our partners is exciting for the city. We are not looking to make a return. We have put a scheme together that satisfies the needs of key organisations in Leicester.”

Leicester Tigers is in discussions with two hotel operators. A grand plaza will link the hotel with the Tigers stadium.

The AFL-designed plans for the stadium will increase capacity by 30,000 by 2011.
