Midlands-based developer Maximus has been given the go ahead for a major mixed-use redevelopment of a former industrial site in Clay Cross, Derbyshire.
North East Derbyshire District Council has granted outline consent for the redevelopment of the former Biwater Works site in Clay Cross – now known as Silkston.
The approved scheme comprises 320,000 sq ft of employment uses, alongside 1,000 houses, a hotel and a new link road on the 220-acre site.
The plans won consent due to the “significant benefit” the scheme will bring to the area. However, the proposed scheme is now being referred to the Secretary of State as the plans depart from the local development plan in terms of phasing.
Ministers will have a 21-day period to decide whether the council’s decision should be the focus of a public inquiry.
Turley Associates advised Maximus on the planning application and the site’s masterplan.
