BoE data reveals mortgage approval incline

The number of new mortgages approved rose in April for the third month in a row, according to the Bank of England.

Figures released this morning show 43,201 new loans were approved in the month, up from 40,038 in March.

However, this is still down by 21.9% year-on-year from 55,280 in April 2008.

At the end of May, the British Bankers’ Association reported that net mortgage lending by UK banks was at its lowest level in eight years, at £2.7bn in April, down from £3.4bn in March.
