St Edwards pushes on in Kensington

St Edward Homes – a Berkeley and Prudential Assurance Company joint venture – is to transform the 300,000 sq ft Charles House on Kensington High Street, W14, into a 530-flat scheme.

The site is one of four identified in Kensington & Chelsea council’s Warwick Road masterplan.

Other sites include a former Territorial Army centre, the Empress Telephone Exchange, a Homebase and 100 West Cromwell Road.

The seven-building scheme will provide just 63 affordable homes after St Edward agreed to build a 52,000 sq ft primary school.

Work is scheduled to start in 2010, once HM Revenue and Customs vacates Charles House.

Gerald Eve advised on planning.
