The Homes and Communities Agency plans to help kick-start the stalled Walsall Waterfront South development with an £8.5m cash injection.
The project had been on hold due to the economic downturn, however, the investment by the HCA will mean that work can finally start on building the waterfront’s first residential phase of 158 homes.
This houses, which are being built by local developer Jessup in partnership with Accord Housing Association, are expected to be completed by March 2011.
The site is one of two regeneration projects in the 17-acre Waterfront area.
The other is Waterfront North, a mixed-use development by Urban Splash which is currently on hold.
Urban Splash has also applied for HCA funding under the next round of its Kickstart scheme.
The investment is one of the biggest in the West Midlands announced in the HCA’s Kickstart programme, which was set up to unblock stalled projects hit by the economic downturn.
