McLaren is forming a new company called McLaren Automotive which will build a new factory alongside its Woking HQ to produce a high-performance top-end sports car model.
Sir Norman Foster will design the Surrey plant, which is scheduled to be operational within 14 months. The company will invest £750m over five years.
Nissan, meanwhile, is spending £420m on expanding its Sunderland plant to make the Leaf, an electric car.
