MIDAS appoints Angie Robinson as chief executive

MIDAS, Greater Manchester’s inward investment agency, has appointed Angie Robinson as its new chief executive to replace Colin Sinclair.

Robinson will join MIDAS from Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, where she is currently chief executive.

Robinson became chief executive of Manchester Chamber of Commerce in 2000 and presided over the formation of the Greater Manchester Chamber in 2004, when the city region’s chambers were merged.

Prior to 2000, Robinson led the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to Robinson’s appointment, Tim Newns, MIDAS’s director of business development, will become the agency’s chief executive.

Sinclair, who handed in his notice in January, has been chief executive of MIDAS for five years. He will take up a role as special projects director with local developer Bruntwood.

Michael Oglesby, chairman of MIDAS, commented: “Angie is a high profile member of the Manchester Business Community and brings with her to MIDAS a wealth of experience in corporate and public sector relationships.

“Tim has an impressive track record in inward investment and together they make a strong team which will be vital to the future drive to attract new business to the city region.

“Colin has done an incredible job at MIDAS and I am sure that Angie and Tim will build on the excellent work of the organisation to date and continue to drive the global business marketing and promotion of Manchester.”
