Court orders sale of Halabi’s Mentmore Towers

The high court has ordered the sale of Mentmore Towers in Buckinghamshire, the site of property tycoon Simon Halabi’s proposed luxury hotel development.

Last week the court ordered the sale to ensure the payment, by a Jersey-based vehicle run by Halabi, of over £190,000 in disputed fees, interest and legal costs to the development’s engineering consultant Packman Lucas.

Appearing at the hearing as an interested party was development architect Aukett Fitzroy Robinson (AFR), which also has a final charging order against the property to secure the payment by Halabi vehicles of £1.1m in disputed fees, interest and costs.

After hearing evidence from the parties as to the minimum value to be placed on the property, the judge ruled that an appropriate price would be £16m.

The judge refused to order the sale of further properties at 21 Charles Street and 20 and 21 Hay Mews in Mayfair, London under a separate final charging order of over £26,000.
