EG Events: 10,000-mile callout for old ambulance

Next week, Gareth Roberts, investment manager at Qatari Diar, is to set off in an attempt to drive 10,000 miles to the Mongolian desert in a 10-year old Fiat ambulance, to raise money for prostate and testicular charity Everyman.

On 24 July, Roberts, who earlier this year was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and Jonathan Chandler – senior surveyor, group property and facilities, at Transport for London – will start off on the journey from London to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

The ambulance they will be using has already covered 200,000 miles.

To complete the challenge, they will have to average 360 miles a day across terrain that will include the Gobi Desert (the fifth-largest desert in the world) and the Pamir Highway (the second-highest highway in the world).
