Ecclesiastical in advanced talks to congregate in Gloucester Docks HQ

Gloucester-based insurance firm Ecclesiastical Group Insurance is in advanced talks with the South West Regional Development Agency for a new 100,000 sq ft headquarters in the city.

The firm, which was founded in 1887 by the clergy, plans to consolidate from around 85,000 sq ft across several offices in Gloucester into a purpose-built HQ at Gloucester Docks. The building will be developed on the Southgate Moorings site.

Gloucester Docks is one of the so-called Magnificent Seven development sites through which SWRDA and urban regeneration company Gloucester Heritage had aimed to upgrade the city.

However, those plans are now uncertain following the coalition government’s decision to replace the UK’s nine regional development agencies with Local Enterprise Partnerships under its localism plans. The RDAs are due to be scrapped by 2012.

Bruton Knowles is advising Ecclesiastical; SWRDA is unrepresented.
