Sutton Harbour Property & Regeneration has been given the go-ahead for a new foodstore at the £30m Castle Court development on Osprey Quay in Portland, Dorset.
The permission follows a decision by the secretary of state not to call in the scheme.
Weymouth and Portland borough council has resolved to grant planning permission subject to no intervention from the secretary of state and completion of the s106 agreement for a 14,500 sq ft supermarket with associated car parking on the site.
The plans supersede an earlier consent for a much smaller retail component. The scheme changes are a consequence of the changing market demand since the original consent was granted.
In 2008, Sutton Harbour Property & Regeneration, SWRDA’s preferred developer for the site, was granted planning permission for 39 flats, 20 self-catering units, a 56-bedroom hotel, 17,664 sq ft of shops, a family pub and restaurant, 5,877 sq ft of small business units, 59,374 sq ft of offices and a visitor centre and tourist information kiosk.
A foodstore with office space was also proposed, which will be replaced by this new consent.
The plans also included a new headquarters, workshop and storage space for the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), which is now open and providing a hub for performance sailing in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games as well as accommodation for Team GB during the competition itself.
Indigo advised on planning.
