A2 Dominion gets go-head for Surrey houses

Stanwell New Start

Housing association A2Dominion has gained outline consent for more than 300 homes as part of the £50m Stanwell New Start regeneration scheme in Surrey.

The association was granted outline planning permission by Spelthorne Borough Council for the next three phases of the project which will involve demolishing a total of 152 existing homes on the estate.

The planned 304 new homes include 260 one, two and three-bedroom properties for affordable rent, shared ownership (part-buy part-rent) and private sale.

There will be an Extra Care scheme providing 44 units of accommodation for older people with a range of care and support needs. It will come complete with a restaurant, hairdressers and activity room.

A new community centre, parking and landscaped open public space are also included in the plans.

Councillor Richard Smith-Ainsley, cabinet member for planning at Spelthorne council, said: “It is yet another positive step forward in the plan to regenerate this area of Stanwell and provide 21st century accommodation for our residents.”

The first phase of the Stanwell New Start scheme, to build 52 new homes in the Long Lane area, got under way in February 2010 and is expected to take about 12 months to complete.

The next phases of the regeneration project will focus on Explorer Avenue, Holywell Way, Long Lane and Mulberry Avenue.
