The sale of 142 courts in England and Wales will provide £38.5m as the government looks to save money.
Jonathan Djanogly, justice minister, who confirmed the closures, said only 15 courts out of the original list earmarked for closure would be reprieved. Plans to build a new magistrates’ court in Liverpool have been cancelled.
