The captain of Premier League football side Blackpool FC has filed for bankruptcy after discovering he was the victim of fraud in a failed property venture.
Seasiders’ striker Jason Euell presented his own petition for bankruptcy at Kingston-upon-Thames county court last week following the failure of a property business he invested in six years ago.
He has also now launched an investigation after discovering his signature had been forged on documents.
The 33-year-old footballer said: “Six years ago I invested in a property company with a friend of mine, which unfortunately due to a number of factors in the last year has failed.
“I recently noticed some financial discrepancies and discovered my signature had been forged on documents.
“I have now put a legal team in place to investigate this, and cannot comment any further until these proceedings are complete. I have taken professional advice as a result of which I filed for bankruptcy on Monday 17 January.”
Jamaican international Euell has reportedly earned around £6m in his 16-year football career.
