Barberry puts its stamp on Coventry

Barberry Developments has acquired one of Coventry’s largest development opportunities.

The West Midlands-based developer has acquired the 200,000 sq ft multi-storey Royal Mail sorting office in the city centre for a sum believed to be around £3m.

The 2-acre site on Bishop Street forms part of Barberry’s plans for a comprehensive redevelopment of that area of the city.

The developer is expected to draw up plans for a retail-led, mixed-use scheme on the site, with the potential to accommodate a supermarket.

Henry Bellfield, director at Barberry Developments, said: “We were impressed by the pro-active nature of Coventry city council and for a number of years have been seeking a major development opportunity within the city. When the mail centre came to the market we recognised the quality of the location and the huge potential of the site.”

Jones Lang LaSalle advised Royal Mail; Barberry was unrepresented.
