Deck to oversee Elephant & Castle delivery

Lend Lease has parachuted in Rob Deck, its development chief on London’s 2012 Olympic Village, to oversee its £1.5bn Elephant & Castle regeneration project.

Deck replaces former Burford chief Mark Boyes at the helm of the 170-acre project as it enters a crucial delivery period.

The Australian developer is assembling a new development team to work with Make architect John Prevc to finalise detailed plans, which will be unveiled for consultation in the next few weeks.

A planning application due to be submitted in spring 2012 is expected to include 2,500 homes and 200,000 sq ft of offices.

Deck will need to conclude long-running negotiations with St Modwen, the owner of the rundown shopping centre at the heart of the project, and end the deadlock with Transport for London over the financing of improvements required to the underground station.

Boyes has left Lend Lease to spend time with his family. He joined the company in 2006 to oversee its now terminated Park Place joint venture with Minerva in Croydon. He was previously part of the Burford management buyout team.
