Head of steam builds against rail plan

Campaigners are trying to force a rethink from the coalition government on the proposed route for HS2, the high speed rail line which would cut the London to Birmingham travel time from one hour 24 minutes to 49 minutes.

Anti high speed campaigners insist that extra capacity could be provided more cheaply through improvements to the West Coast Main Line.
