Clutch of fashion retailers sign up to the Friary

Fashion retailers Hollister, River Island and Republic have signed for new stores at the Friary shopping centre in Guildford, Surrey.

Hollister and Republic will both be opening their first stores in the town, trading from 7,500 sq ft and 6,500 sq ft shops respectively. River Island will be expanding its presence in Guildford by taking a larger 10,000 sq ft store.

The lettings are part of a repositioning project being undertaken by Westfield and Hermes Real Estate, the joint owners of the Friary centre. It also includes the creation of a new dining area, glazed entrances, more contemporary interior finishes and enhanced lighting levels.

Peter Miller, chief operating officer for Westfield, said: “We are delivering a major remix and refurbishment of the Friary to significantly improve the experience for shoppers. The signing of these leading retailers has generated strong retailer interest in the remaining available units.”

Ben Tolhurst, asset manager at Hermes Real Estate, added: “These are dynamic brands who recognise the opportunity presented by a reconfigured Friary centre and the sales potential offered by the catchment. By creating space that meets their demands, we are able to strengthen the overall retail offer of the town.”
