Oxford council chooses Grosvenor for Barton scheme

The Duke of Westminster’s property company, Grosvenor, has been named by Oxford council as its development partner to deliver up to 1,000 homes on a 90-acre site in Barton.

Work on the site is expected to begin in 2013 with Grosvenor contributing funding and development expertise to support the development. A council spokesperson claims it will be “the largest residential development opportunity in the city for many years”.

In addition to the variety of houses and flats, plans include the construction of a flyover, referred to as Barton Bridge.

Cllr Ed Turner, deputy leader of Oxford council, said the homes will benefit the wider community.

Edward Skeates, projects director at Grosvenor, said: “Timescale is critical, so we will be full steam ahead now to enter into the agreement and get the project under way.”
