Sellar ready to give Shard an oriental flavour

Irvine Sellar’s Sellar Property Group is close to securing two top Asian restaurants for its Shard development at London Bridge, SE1.

Hakkasan and Zuma co-founder Rainer Becker are both understood to be in talks to take space at the 1,000 ft skyscraper.

Hakkasan, owned by Hong Kong restaurateur Alan Yau, and Becker are looking at taking 8,000 sq ft each on floors 31 to 33 of the 87-storey tower. Becker is understood to be considering creating a new concept.

The Renzo Piano-designed Shard will comprise 595,000 sq ft of office space, restaurants and bars, a five-star Shangri-La hotel and spa, exclusive residences and a high-level viewing gallery providing 360° panoramas across London when it is completed in early 2013.

All of the office space is available following the cancellation of a deal with Transport for London, which would have seen the body take 190,000 sq ft at £38.50 per sq ft (19 June, p50).

Berkeley Simmons Hotels & Leisure is advising Sellar on the restaurant lettings; Jones Lang LaSalle and Knight Frank are office letting agents.

Sellar declined to comment.
