Landsec bags Primark for Westwood Cross

Land Securities has confirmed that it has secured Primark to occupy a new anchor store at Westwood Cross shopping and leisure centre in Thanet, Kent.

As revealed by EGi on 11 January, Primark will take 70,000 sq ft and trade over two levels adjacent to TK Maxx.

Land Securities expects to start work on the centre’s extension in the summer following Thanet council’s recent planning resolution.

It is the fifth major deal that Land Securities has closed with Primark in the past 10 months.

Primark has also signed up with Land Securities to move into stores in Oxford Street, W1, Trinity Leeds, The Centre in Livingston and The Bridges in Sunderland. The deals together total more than 430,000 sq ft.

Land Securities’ portfolio director for Westwood Cross, Hermione Mackrill, said: “The new major store will be a great addition to the centre, and will build on the already attractive variety of shops. Primark is a hugely popular brand, and will be a magnet drawing shoppers to our retail and leisure centre.”

Jones Lang Lasalle acted on behalf of Land Securities; Hartnell Taylor Cook represented Primark.
