Residents in central Lewisham are reportedly unimpressed by delays to the start of work on Lewisham Gateway, a £250m, 1m sq ft regeneration scheme, which includes 800 homes.
Joint venture partners Muse Developments and Taylor Wimpey won outline consent in 2007, but put the project on ice when the recession hit. In April, they negotiated a deal with Lewisham council that gives them until 2013 to obtain detailed planning consent and start construction.
Doug Finlay, project director at Muse, says plans are being drawn up for the first two buildings, comprising 400 homes, plus ancillary retail. “We expect to submit them before the end of this year,” he says.
Finlay hopes for approval by mid-2012, when work could start immediately. However, funding has yet to be secured.
