Developer Cottam Hall Properties has submitted plans for a £80m mixed-use scheme on its 28-acre Brickworks site in Preston, Lancashire.
The scheme, located on the edge of Preston, will comprise a 47,000 sq ft Tesco supermarket, 45,000 sq ft of offices, around 200 homes, and restaurants set around a marina.
The developer said that, if successful, it will begin construction within six months.
However, there is opposition to the scheme, with supermarket chain Morrisons objecting to a large out-of-town foodstore in the area and local residents complaining about parking provision for the offices element.
Cottam Hall chairman Ian Rankin said: “This project has been talked about for a long time but we are now at a stage whereby we are tantalisingly close to starting on site having obtained approval in principal from Preston city council.
“It has the support of all the stakeholders including Preston city council, Lancashire county council and the Homes and Communities Agency. All partners are very encouraged about the sustainability of the site and the positive impact it will have surrounding neighbourhoods.”
