Plans for a 10-storey student block above a Travis Perkins depot in St Pancras, have been given the go-ahead.
UNITE Group’s plans for the 150,000 sq ft development in St Pancras Way, including 564 student rooms and a roof with solar panels to generate hot water, have been approved by Camden council.
Travis Perkins currently occupies the site, but the new facility will see UNITE as the site owner, and the student accommodation built around a new warehouse and loading bay for the building firm on a long lease.
As part of the plans, a new footbridge over the Regent’s Canal will also be built, connecting residents to the University of the Arts, due to open in September.
Work on the development will start early next year, and the facility is due for completion in 2013.
