Administrators for TJ Hughes have confirmed that 22 stores will close soon.

TJ Hughes stores in Shrewsbury, Birkenhead, Dumfries, Dundee, Rochdale, Widnes, Wolverhampton, Stetford, Bolton, Boscombe, Burnley, Chester, Crawley, Hull, Kettering, Kidderminster, Macclesfield, Nuneaton, St Helens, Walsall, Watford and Weston-super-Mare will all close between 10 and 14 August.

Administrators at Ernst & Young are continuing to seek a sale of the company’s remaining business and assets as a going concern. They agreed to sell TJ Hughes’ flagship store in London Road, Liverpool, together with stores in Eastbourne, Glasgow and Sheffield to Lewis’s Home Retail, a company associated with the Benross Group, on 1 August.

TJ Hughes, which was founded in 1912, collapsed into administration in June.

Tom Jack, joint administrator, said: “We continue in negotiations with a number of interested parties for a large number of the remaining stores in the group’s portfolio, and we are keen to stress that those stores unaffected by these closures will continue to trade for the time being, with new stock lines being added.”
