Choices Care, which operates from 27 sites across Scotland and north-east England, has gone into administration.
The Livingston-based care homes firm runs a number of homes that it owns, and leases others.
Gloucester-based Mears Group has bought the group’s supported-living arm for £7.4m. The rest of Choices Care will continue to trade under the administrator while a buyer is sought.
Peter Holder, Liz Mackay and Anne O’Keefe of Zolfo Cooper were appointed joint administrators of the business on 4 August, and will manage its affairs, business and property.
