Urban Outfitters signs for Guildford

US fashion brand Urban Outfitters has signed up for space at Westfield’s Friary Centre in Guildford.

Urban Outfitters will occupy an 8,300 sq ft shop on two levels. It joins Hollister, River Island and Republic, which have taken 7,500 sq ft, 10,000 sq ft and 6,400 sq ft, respectively, in the centre this year. Rents achieved on these lettings equate to £30-£40 per sq ft.

There are 10 more lettings in solicitors’ hands. They follow a £50m refurbishment that will see the Friary Centre relaunched at the end of October.

Rupert Long of Briant Champion Long, which advises Westfield, said: “The refurbishment has transformed the centre and created a scale, type and quality of space that previously wasn’t available in Guildford. This reconfiguration has also enabled Topshop to increase its unit from 12,000 sq ft to 23,000 sq ft.

“The influx of occupiers, combined with the exciting new environment created by the refurbishment, is giving the centre great momentum ahead of Christmas.”
