Administrators at Ernst & Young have confirmed the closure of eight TJ Hughes stores.
In addition, the administrators have closed the Salford store in Manchester after it was severely vandalised and a large quantity of stock looted following the rioting which took place on 9 August.
Following the sale of the six stores to Lewis’s Home Retail, the administrators continue to seek a sale of the company’s remaining business and assets as a going concern, while also trading stock through the whole of the group’s store portfolio.
Joint administrator Tom Jack, said: “It is regrettable that we have had to schedule these store closures. We had hoped to allow trading to continue for longer at the Salford store to give the best chance of find a buyer, but after last night’s attack this is no longer possible.
“We continue in negotiations with interested parties for a number of the remaining stores in the group’s portfolio, and we are keen to stress that those stores unaffected by these closures will continue to trade for the time being, with new stock lines being added.”
