Amazon books in at Buncefield

 


Amazon is closing in on a deal to take the 465,000 sq ft Mammoth shed in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, which was partially destroyed by the Buncefield oil depot explosion in 2005.


The online retailer is in negotiations with Murphy & Sons, which acquired the site from Blackstone Real Estate Partners in 2009, to take a 15-year lease on the building.


The quoting rent for the shed is £6.50 per sq ft. This would be the second major letting in as many months for Amazon, after agreeing to take Gazeley and Metlife’s 700,000 sq ft Flair building at G.Park in Rugeley in July.


The online superstore is also in negotiations with ProLogis over a 1m sq ft rail-connected shed at the Widnes freight park in Cheshire.
