Runcorn supermarket consent granted

halton 570

Barton Willmore has secured planning consent on behalf of developer Ablestyle for a 150,000 sq ft supermarket in Runcorn, Cheshire.

The store, which sits on a 9.3-acre site in Halton Lea town centre will have a net sales area of 100,000 sq ft.

The consent means that the existing building on the site, East Lane House, will be demolished.

The council has long-standing plans to regenerate Halton Lea town centre and outline planning consent was originally granted for the site in April 2008.

The scheme will also include a replacement footbridge to encourage linked trips to the shopping centre and highways improvements, as well as pedestrian and cycle links.

Chris Wyman of Ablestyle said: “This decision releases a significant site for retail development, ensuring that the current eyesore of East Lane House is demolished and significantly enhancing the heart of Halton Lea as a shopping and commercial destination.”
