BCL hires JLL’s Findlater

Briant Champion Long has recruited Jones Lang LaSalle director James Findlater.

The niche retail agent has appointed Findlater, who worked in JLL’s capital markets division, as a partner in its investment team. He is expected to join the firm in November.

Findlater’s work during more than 10 years at JLL includes leading the sale of Wolsey Place in Woking to the town council. He has been involved in more than £1.5bn of transactions in the past five years.

Colin Moran has also joined Briant Champion Long as an associate partner in its retail professional team. Previously with Jackson Criss, he specialises in rent reviews and lease renewals on supermarkets, department stores and variety stores throughout the UK.

Briant Champion Long’s head of investment, James Watson, said: “Shopping centre advice is a key aspect of Briant Champion Long’s offer, and James is a perfect fit for us: he’s well-respected in the market and has an excellent track record. We’re delighted he has chosen to join us.

“Briant Champion Long is now one of the leading independent retail property consultancies in the UK and after a very busy 2010, which included advising on the £240m sale of Drake Circus in Plymouth, our investment team has already concluded more than £250m of deals this year. There is plenty for James to get stuck into.”

David Raven, head of UK shopping centre investment at Jones Lang LaSalle, said: “James leaves with our best wishes to pursue his career with a change of focus in a niche practice. Jones Lang LaSalle continues as the dominant shopping centre investment advisor with a market share of 30% in 2010 which looks set to grow with the team currently advising on assets with a combined value in excess of £500m.”
