Truck stop developers are being sought by Thurrock council, and help is being offered to them on how to best draw up submissions.
The council said it wants to have more dedicated truck stops in the borough, which include parking spaces and facilities, such as showers, shops and restaurants.
Councillor Andy Smith, Thurrock’s portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “We want as many ideas as possible, so we can look at all the advantages and disadvantages of each one and come to a reasoned and sensible outcome.”
The appeal from the council follows the Department for Transport confirming that it will allow the development of truck stops on the UK’s motorway network.
Thurrock council added that it would hold a workshop to help site owners and developers with submissions, on 15 or 16 September.
