The University of Hertfordshire is seeking a developer for a student village scheme that could cost £1bn.
The university intends to create 3,000 student bedrooms on its College Lane campus in Hatfield. The first stream of accommodation would be delivered in 2014, and the remainder by 2020.
Around 1,000 bedrooms on the site would be demolished to make room for the development.
A partner is required to design, build, finance and operate the project, which could cost up to £1bn, the university said. The minimum cost is projected to be £200m.
The plans are part of the university’s 2020 Vision project, which aims to revamp the estate and enhance the quality of life for students.
A shortlist of four developers will be invited to submit final bids for the project.
