Tyne housing plans go in

The New Tyne West Development Company has submitted detailed planning application for the building of 377 homes in the first phase of its project to invest £265m in Scotswood, creating 1,800 new homes.

Plans were submitted to Newcastle city council with construction hope of starting by the spring. The New Tyne West Development Company is a public private partnership comprising developers Barratt, Keepmoat and Yuill alongside Newcastle city council. The partnership was launched in February with the aim of creating 1,800 eco-friendly family homes alongside new neighbourhood and commercial facilities, parks and public open spaces.

Tees Valley Housing will act as the affordable housing partner for the first phase of the project and it will own and manage up to 90 of the new homes to be built on the banks of the Tyne over the next year or so.

Hazel Stephenson, councillor and cabinet member for Newcastle city council, said: “The submission of the planning application for phase one is the culmination of six months close liaison with residents in Scotswood and Benwell and the development company’s proposals now meet with a great deal of local support.”
