Leeds-based Gregory Properties has bought a former bowling alley in Harrogate for £600,000 with a view to transforming it into a mixed-use development.
Gregory is working up plans for the site on Tower Street, known as the West Park site, comprising a 78-bedroom hotel and restaurant with 7,000 sq ft of shops and leisure space on the ground floor.
Hotel operator Travelodge has agreed terms for a 25-year lease on the hotel and restaurant.
Gregory aims to deliver the scheme by spring 2013.
Richard Tovey of Gregory Projects, said: “The bowling alley on Tower Street closed down in July 2009 and the site owner had been unable to attract another occupier despite a thorough marketing campaign. The existing multistorey car park adjacent will benefit the development, and we anticipate strong occupier interest in the ground floor as Harrogate is a thriving town from a retail and leisure perspective “
Tony O’Brien, UK Development Director for Travelodge Hotels, said: “Our existing Harrogate hotel performs strongly all year round, and we have long been on the look out for a suitable second site.”
Jones Lang LaSalle and Lambert Smith Hampton acted for Gregory Properties. Smith Cole Wright acted for Travelodge.
