NHS gets its teeth into Pebble Mill

The site of the BBC’s famous Pebble Mill studios is set to be the new home for an NHS dental hospital and school after plans were given the go ahead yesterday.

Plans include a six-storey, 172,222 sq ft dental hospital, which would replace the current NHS facility in the city centre, and a school of dentistry. More than 1,100 staff and students could be accommodated on the site.

Worcestershire-based architect One Creative Environments on behalf of BaS Lift and Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust hope to breathe new life into the site, which has lain vacant since the BBC moved to The Mailbox in 2004.
