Land Securities and St James’s Investments have been given the go ahead to regenerate the former Sussex House site in Crawley.
The plans include a Morrisons supermarket, a 110-bedroom Travelodge hotel, restaurants and a 500-plus space car park.
Land Securities’ development director Chris Ward, said: “The proposals have been designed to help to kickstart the regeneration of Crawley as phase one of Town Centre North. We are keen to start work on construction in the spring, and we are aiming to have the hotel and store open and operating in 2013.”
The council issued a Prior Information Notice last month for the next phase of Town Centre North, seeking expressions of interest from companies keen to redevelop the area.
The council has been approached by several companies interested in bringing forward a large retail-led development, and is now investigating what they could bring to the town centre.
