Greene King targets more cuts

Greene King plans to axe a further 300 pubs in the next three to four years.

The Bury St Edmunds-based brewer will at the same time seek further managed pub purchases. It has reduced its tenanted estate from 1,700 pubs to 1,500 over the past three years. Greene King, whose brands include Loch Fyne, Hungry Horse and Old English Inns, has 950 managed pubs, restaurants and hotels. It bought 35 pubs during the last half-year period. The company has been expanding in London to make the most of next year’s Olympic Games.
