“Hugely impressive” is how our judges described Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants/Premier Inn’s performance.
It wins our new Occupier of the Year Award for a stunning growth story. Premier Inn’s outstanding property results allowed its parent company to increase growth targets to an unprecedented but wholly achievable 50% rise in bedrooms over five years.
The business is the UK’s largest budget hotel operator. Its 600th property opened in April. In the past financial year, Whitbread/Premier Inn added 1m sq ft to its UK portfolio, a substantial achievement post-recession. It is now targeting 6m sq ft of new space over the next three years. By 2016, the Premier Inn portfolio will grow from its present 43,000 bedrooms to 65,000 – an increase of 50%. Some 4,000 (32 new hotels) of these will be delivered in the present financial year.
All this has been achieved through Premier Inn’s 12-point strategy to build on core strengths and deliver innovation through change of use, new concepts and sustainable development.
