Twenty-nine-year-old John Maddison, a director and asset manager at British Land, has achieved more in his relatively short career than many achieve in their working lives.
“John is an exceptional talent,” said one judge. “He has achieved beyond his years throughout his career, demonstrating success, leadership and stayability.”
After his A-levels in 2000, he joined CB Hillier Parker as a property administrator before joining Savills. In 2003, his then client Henderson offered him a job and by 2004, aged just 22, he became portfolio manager for Henderson’s £1.1bn specialist UK retail warehouse fund. He was personally responsible for over £500m of retail warehouse property.
In 2005, he was headhunted by British Land to be a principal asset manager for the £2.2bn Hercules Unit Trust. He was responsible for more than £500m of retail warehouse property, as well as being the youngest director on the company’s properties board. Maddison also chairs Accessible Retail.
Said one judge: “There were many strong entries – suggesting this industry has a healthy future – but John’s achievements stood out.”
