Should you have headed from Piccadilly Circus into Soho in recent months the redevelopment of the former Regent Palace Hotel wouldn’t have escaped your notice.
Now known as the Quadrant 3 project, it is a key element of the Crown Estate’s ongoing £1bn regeneration strategy for Regent Street.
On track for completion by the end of 2011, the Quadrant 3 scheme will provide 270,000 sq ft of modern offices, shops and homes. It will also deliver one of the most significant improvements to the West End’s public realm for the past 30 years.
More than that, it showcases the Crown Estate’s commitment to sustainable development.
This project involves adapting an existing building by installing decentralised energy production and more efficient lighting, and by improving energy efficiency and biodiversity. It also incorporates sustainable urban drainage and features a green roof on which are planted nectar-rich plants that attract honey bees.
