Beetham Birmingham in administration

Beetham Hotels Birmingham, the owner of the city’s tallest building, has been placed into administration.

Administrators at KPMG have been to the company, which owns the 39-storey Beetham Tower at Holloway Circus.

Joint administrator Mark Orton said: “This is a quality asset in a major city centre and the administration is only due to the financial restructuring of the landlord, which is part of the Beetham property group.”

The hotel is managed by Rezidor Hotels UK under the Radisson brand. The business is trading as normal and no redundancies are expected.

The flats at the top of the 250,000 sq ft building are unaffected by the administration.

Beetham Hotels Birmingham is the latest in a string of Beetham subsidiaries to collapse, including the group’s flagship London property, the Beetham Tower at 1 Blackfriars, SE1. It was placed into administration in October last year.

The group’s West Tower, Mapfield Properties, Beetham Hotels Liverpool and Beetham Hotels Manchester were placed into administration following Baker Tilly’s appointment in July as administrator of the assets of Regional Landmark Hotels, formerly known as the Beetham Organization.
