Unite has secured planning permission for a 951-bed student accommodation development next to Westfield Stratford, E15.
The student housing developer will create and manage the 28-storey, 250,000 sq ft property, which will also provide communal facilities and 480 bicycle spaces.
The Stratford scheme, which received approval from the Olympic Delivery Authority, will aid Unite’s target of delivering 4,000 new beds in London by 2014. Work on the project will begin in 2012.
Richard Simpson, managing director of property for Unite, said: “We are excited about this scheme, and are confident that the continued investment being made in the area, as a result of the Olympic games, coupled with a favourable and ongoing supply and demand dynamic in the student accommodation sector in London, will make this scheme a great success.”
Unite recently revealed to Estates Gazette that it is selling non-core assets to concentrate its activity on large purpose-built student housing in the capital.
