Stars including actors Dame Judi Dench, Miranda Richardson, Imogen Stubbs, Laura Carmichael, John Sessions and Ben Mansfield, along with politician Michael Portillo, television presenter Sophie Raworth and satirist Ian Hislop, were among the readers at last month’s Story of Christmas carol service. The event, now in its 34th year, was followed by a reception and charity auction. In total, more than £200,000 was raised for homeless charity CRASH and the Wooden Spoon appeal.
The fund-raising service at St George’s Church in Hannover Square was led by the choir of Westminster Cathedral, the band and fanfare trumpeters of the Irish Guards and the Royal Naval Reserve. Richard Chartres, the Bishop of London, presided.
